    The Faculty of  Physics and Astronomy / Institute for Theoretical Physics seeks to fill the position of

                                                             Scientific Computing Staff (m/f/d)

    commencing on October 1, 2024, full-time (40 hours per week), with an initial appointment for 3 years.

    The TPI is active in a wide range of topics in theoretical physics, both in research and teaching. In particular, scientific computing plays a major role in general relativity and astrophysics.

    Your responsibilities:

    • Support of research at the TPI regarding scientific computing and high performance computing, in particular in Computational Relativity and Computational Astrophysics
    • Installation and maintenance of computer infrastructure, services and hardware at the TPI in close collaboration with the University Computer Center
    • Application oriented services with regard to creating modern software infrastructure, parallelization, data management for international collaborations
    • Training and teaching in Theoretical Physics and Computational Physics,
      Willingness for further academic qualification


    Your profile:

    Ph.D. degree in one of the subject areas mentioned above, or in a neighboring area including physics, mathematics, or computer science disciplines. Very good communication skills in English. The candidate should have experience in scientific computing and in high-performance computing. Required is experience in the administration of Linux workstations.

    • Remuneration based on the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector of the Federal States (TV-L) up to salary scale E13, depending on the candidate’s personal qualifications;
    • A comprehensive continuing education programme and individual qualification and development measures, in particular the Habilitation is possible;

    • 30 days of vacation per calendar year plus two days off on December 24 and 31.
