One of the main questions we address regarding the interstellar medium (ISM) is the nature and abundance of detected molecular species, a large majority of which have been observed in very cold (ca. 10 K) and tenuous (104–106 cm-3) environments called dense molecular clouds. To answer this question, we need to focus on three main tasks: i) the search and identification of species present in the ISM; ii) the building of chemical models that could explain the synthesis of the observed species; iii) the determination of crucial parameters for the models, such as optical, dynamic, and structural parameters of species as well as rate coefficients for their chemical reactions. The present work is devoted to the points i) and iii) through laboratory low temperature spectroscopic studies of astrophysically relevant objects and a development of scientific instruments for such studies. The objects for discussion are molecules, weakly bound molecular complexes, helium clusters with a number of his atoms up to 10, and interstellar ice-dust analogues.
